MOVING BILLBOARD is a performance-based project conceived by La Société Spectrale, involving photographic documentation of the apparition of twenty-four billboards in unexpected locations across Tirana’s periphery over the duration of a single day. It brings together a diverse group of artists with the aim of building a loop of ideas around the time of the present. La Société Spectrale has invited 12 artists to contribute two works, one of theirs and one of a deceased artist or poet, whose practice has been important and that their work still speaks to this present or the upcoming future. With their personal choices, the 12 invited artists also become, in a certain sense, co-curators of Moving Billboard. The 24 billboards shed light on issues including but not limited to: desertion, economic corruption, police brutality, alienation, identity, war, terrorism and environmental collapse. The location and time (hour) of apparition is unique for each billboard. In addition, every billboard remains in situ for only one hour, making it impossible for the spectator to see all of the billboards in the order in which they appear within the given timeframe. The completed project is being made available here via its photographic documentation.
